Relatively new owner here with a 2011 plate Outlander 2.2tdi GX4 17.5k on the clock with the sst gearbox.


I bought the car specifically for towing and on my most recent touring holiday around France the car began slipping and juddering whilst pulling the caravan both up hill and on the flat.


This occurs mostly in 4th and began doing it in 6th at around 2000 rpm ( in the turbo ).


Under hard accelerating it also occurs without the caravan.


Its been to the garage numerous times, Once in France when it 1st occurred and again when we returned from our holiday.


They cant fault the car using their diagnostics equipment.
computer says no! Now correct me if im wrong but this is a mechanical fault and the computer will not find it.


The mechanics at the Mitsubishi Dealership are reluctant to drive around in the car with me so I can show them claiming they have no time.


Is there any history of this anyone else had similar issues?

Step 1, learn to tow.
Step 2, replace the clutch.

2.2 diesel has over 80% of torque available at 2,000rpm.

I would perform clutch re-learn procedure.

 

ahem, *turbo diesel.
a 2.2 is a very small engine to lug around an obese FWD (whether it has a takeoff for the back or not) SUV, AND whatever is clipped behind it.
put through an auto box which no doubt sucks some of that 80% goodness, and considering that 5th and 6th are probably overdrive gearing... yeah, nah, not a good idea at all.

but thankyou, up until today i thought learning the clutch was a driver issue, not the car's one!

Well, if you look at the Mitsubishi UK website (where Outlanders have that model designation) the transmission is listed as the 6 speed auto.

If you look at other markets (like Australia) with that engine the transmission is listed as the 6 speed auto and the ratios listed are for the torque converter auto.

So I was wondering if the OP might be mis-informed about the transmission his car has. If it is the torque converter auto then it would appear to slip if the OP is expecting it to be an SST.

6 speed AT comes only with 3.0 V6

 

In Australia the new shape Outlander has the 6 speed AT with the 2.2L diesel, but only AWC (not S-AWC like the previous v6 with 6AT).
