I've been looking since a while for an anwser but no luck.

I own a 2010 outlander ES 4Wd 2.4L (canadian) Is it possible that the rear suspension is not the same on the V6 model? I have MacPherson strut on the rear and it seem that V6 have Coil and strut separate. Is that true??

I want to use it to tow a pop up camping trailer. But has soon has i put the trailer on, the hitch almost it the ground, i know trailer is 250lbs tongue weight.(I know that 150lbs is the limit with 4cyl. but the hitch is a 400/4000 and im sure the body is the same...V6 or not) Imagine now with the familly and cargo inside.

Max payload is 827lbs (same has my Lancer..) and i can't put the air spring like firestone on it, to raise it a bit, since they do not realy fit in there...

Shoud i change my spring for the one of the 7 passengers?? (Payload is 1157lbs) or there is more than only spring difference??

McPherson in front. Multi-link in back.
All models since 2007. The Firestone bag will work. Just have a look behind one of the rear wheel.

I looked at my rear suspension and it definitly does not look like the picture you sent me. But more like this.. (sorry could not find a bigger picture).
Its why i'm pretty sur firestone bag does not fit or if stronger springs exist, and if they can be installed without changing any other parts.

 

I am confused, all my sources of info give the same rear layout for the 4cyl as the v6 BUT if I go to 2010 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER Parts - Mitsubishi Parts | OEM Mitsubishi Parts | Genuine Mitsubishi Parts see below.

The 4 cyls has a McPherson rear suspension. A North American only deal?????
I am happy I took the v6. But for you the bag will not fit...

Me i regret a bit i did not pick the V6...
But i didn't knew when i bought it, that i will get a pop up trailer that heavy...
The lost of money is to big to change it now, i will use it like that... or maybe add some Weight distribution bar...

Adding a weight distributing system would make a lot of difference, but make sure your trailer tongue can handle the added stress of such a system. Many PUP trailers aren't strong enough in the A-frame to handle it and will bend. Check with the manufacturer to be sure.

PS. I find it extremely strange that they went with a different rear suspension on the 2.4.

 

Please keep this in mind. It's not just the suspension that allows you to haul more in the V6. You also have a more robust transmission (vs the CVT) and 62 more HP in the V6 vs the 4cyl.

 

Likewise, much more low end torque, extra transmission cooler, and much better engine braking as well. Even with that, I still wouldn't recommend towing anything serious with the V6 Outlander on mountainous areas.

 

I read many times on forums that 2.4l engine and cvt can tow up to 330/3300lbs in other coutries. I don't know if it's a matter of warranty, in north america its 10years and maybe they don't want you to break it before that.

So i'm sure it can handle it, i'm not towing every day and i'm not in a mountainous area.. i have brake on the trailer and i installed the 7 pin connector plus a proportionnal brake controller so i should be ok with that, If i go somewhere with to much hills, i'll borrow the truck of my father in-law.
