Default Replacing the rear bumper at a body shop

Would anyone be able to give me a rough estimation on replacing the rear bumper on an '06 Outlander at a body shop? Going to junkyards/searching for parts will not help me.

Any help is appreciated.

do you need to get the bumper too ir just installing it and painting it?
have you tried checking prices on a new one with the dealership first?

I need the new bumper and have it installed. I'm not sure if it needs to be painted. Everyplace I call tells me I need to come in for an estimate so I'm just looking for a ballpark cost to expect.

not sure what the bumper would cost. but probably $200 to be painted and another $100-150 to be put on.

It all depends on whats the is the condition of the bumper.
You should get a bumper that has no damage (dents), but paint chips or stretches are fine, since you will body-fill it and paint it anyways.
Bumper shouldn't cost much, all around junk-yards.
Painting the bumper should be around 300-500, which includes prep for paint, body fill anything needed, paint, and install.

Do the math, if getting a new bumper from dealer is around the same price, then why bother with used?

What happen to your current bumper?

I just had a little rear end collision with an Outlander. The only damage to the Outlander bumper were two minor scuffs (my bumper has two rubber guards ahead of the physical bumper) and a little wider than a hairline crack next to the license plate, about the same vertical length of the plate.

I'm just trying to get an rough estimate to see if I might need to cash out some vacation pay from work because every body shop I call tells me I need bring the car in. I'm contemplating Bondoing the damn thing in the night because the damage is minimal and I know the body shops are going to tell the people they need a new one because I'm paying.

not necessarily. trying to fix something would cost more than replacing in terms of labour.
if you replace it, then the body shop would only have to paint it and attach it.
if you fix it, then there is alot more work involved plus the paint and putting it back on.

I wouldn't just body fill the crack in your bumper, to fix it properly the bumper needs to come off the vehicle and be repaired from the inside of the cover, with the proper materials, ie Norton Speed Grip. That is the best stuff I have found for plastic bumper repair, I have used this product for a long time and it works. HTH

ps I am a bodyman/ painter Chris
