Guess it's a good thing I'm not in a hurry.
How so? Quite a few legendary engines are timing belts. It depends on what you plan on towing, I have already towed a Jay Flight SLX trailer and some smaller trailers with ease. The maximum tow weight of the 3.0 is 3500 LB ( with trailer brakes) the 2.4 is 1500.

As a general rule I make sure what ever I'm towing is -15% or greater then the maximum weight so the engine is not running at full capacity. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

The cost to change the timing belt. It ain't cheap unless you can do it yourself and even then, it's not an easy job. I drive a lot so I'd be incurring that expense at least once every 3 years. For that reason, I won't buy any car with a timing belt, except my old Miata which I don't drive that much and I can change it myself.

Then it would seem you may have not needed our input. 😁 Good Luck on the purchase!

I was never considering a V6 model. The ones I have been looking at have the 4 cylinder which has a timing chain.

My CVT wines a little. The 2.4 is way underrated in what it can tow.

Do you tow regularly with yours?

Not really. It had a hitch on my 2013 Outlander which was the 2.4 CVT FWD. I had to rent a uhaul trailer which are 1500 lbs empty then throw 1 ton of dirt in it (3500lbs total). It pulled it but was not happy with me. The second time I had the same trailer with a bunch of furniture. Pulling a ton was not a problem (2000 lbs). The biggest issue I had was mine was it was front wheel drive. I have not tried towing yet with my 2015 awd. I would assume it would do better since the back tires can provide traction as well.
