Default Volume control with IPod

When using the IPod thru the stereo requires the volume control to be turned way up to be heard. How to fix?

I guess thats normal...
I turn the volume on the Ipod to the max, and it plays at around 14-15 level for volume for the car.

Use a docking station may avoid "the way up" (well, you will end having it just "up"
Because the current regulations, the output level for headphones is limited. Using the docking station, you will get the sound without this limitation. Do not expect a tremendous level, anyway.

What are you using to connect your ipod? I know I can buy a cable from my dealer, but at $60, there has to be a better deal.
