Default Water in Passenger Compartment-07 Outie..kinda long

Hello Everyone,
I just needed to vent for my first post!

I purchased a 07 Silver Outlander XLS 2WD with everything (Sun/Sound, Nav). It has been great...until this week. About a week after I bought the Outie, I purchased some inexpensive clear floormats to keep the good ones in shape. After having them in the car for about a week, I noticed the front passenger floor mat was foggy. Fast forward to this week, which has been raining non-stop, rare for Dallas...Anyway, I start to feel around the front passenger floor mats, and they are SOAKED. I make an appointment immediately and supposedly get it fixed. The service advisor said that one of the welds wasn't quite sealed properly, so they sealed it. They said they vacuumed up all of the water, but this morning I felt around again, and it was SOAKED. Last night we had no rain...so I dried it up again (which took about 5 towels) and went to work. When I arrived at work, I felt again and guess what....it was SOAKED!

So, I made another appointment and brought it to another dealership where they checked the air conditioning draining hose again, and saw it was working properly. The advisor told me to watch it and he would leave the ticket open in case I had to come back. Well, as soon as I got home from the dealership, I felt around again......floor still SOAKED. So, I took it BACK to the dealership, where the advisor told me they were going to have to take out the carpet on the front and rear passenger side to find out where all of this water is coming from.

Notes:
Water is not coming from the engine compartment.
Water is under the carpet behind the front passenger seat, and is underneath the Amp...not good
Car is starting to smell...[:'(]

This probably hasn't happened to anyone else, but any thoughts (and sympathy) are welcome!

BTW....I'm still happy to have the Outlander

Patrick

It is likely the tube from the AC evaporator drain pan being clogged, crimped or misrouted if they dont find an actual leak. Regardless make sure they replace the carpet.

I did notice after i posted that they thought it was the AC as well. A friend had a miniban that did that it looked like the drain was working but it didnt keep up with all the extra humidity here in Cleveland.

I might have missed something you said, but I'll ask. Does it get wet inside only when it rains or has it been doing it every time? if it does it only when it rains, inspect the sunroof drainage system, pour some water inside it, enough not to spill it inside the car but enough so that it goes down the drain holes down through the pillars and then you should see some water drip under your car, if water doesnt drip you may have a cloggedor crackddrain passage thats leaking water in the cabin. I may be tatally off, but its something worth checking and easy to do.

Wow, I didn't suspect it leaking from the sunroof...The next time I talk to the service guy, I will mention that. I figure that a 1 month old new car wouldn't have that kind of problem....but, oh well! The funny thing is, it is only on the passenger side, the driver's side is dry.

It's not the ac, because I haven't used it that much since I've owned the car....as amatter of fact, I didn't use it at all this week until today. Plus, they checked the a/c, and it is draining properly.

Thanks for the replies and ideas...keep 'em coming!

So your saying it gets wet even though it doesnt rain. Its could be the heater core depending on where that is located at. I worked 2 in my old cars and both were behind the pass side dashboard area.

I hope they checked the coolant level. Good news is, you have a good claim for Lemon Law. Well, you are in Texas, so I am not sure. If you were in Cali, they would buy that back quick. The law is actually on your side on that one here. Especially if it is starting to smell like mildew. That smell is not likely to go away. I have seen cars bough back for MUCH less. I would check on Lemon Law in your state, and just get a new one if possible.

The heater core idea also crossed my mind. I know it's not coolant because because it just smells like stale water. I'm going to check on the Texas Lemon Law and see what my options are.
