It should charge the phone and I have been able to play music via bluetooth(no voice control), but that can interfere with incoming calls. I spoke with Mitsubishi tech support and they were actually very surprised to hear that I could play music that way. They had NO idea that it would work and they told me that I was lucky! When asked about the full integration of the iPhone, they told me that it was an Apple issue and that there was nothing being done on their end to fix it. I also spoke to Apple tech support and they said they had no idea there was an issue with the Mitsubishi Fuse System and the iPhone. They went on to tell me that it was not an Apple issue and that unless Mitsubishi fixes it, it will likely never work properly.

My solution was to buy a 16GB flash drive and load it up with music and use that in my Lancer. It works the way it's supposed to, go figure!

This is Apple's problem, not Mitsubishi's. Although they should be working together to fix this problem. My 4th Gen Ipod Touch does not work with my Outlander nor does it work with cd players that have the USB port built in. My brother's Nano works for both. The OS/firmware from Apple is obviously the problem. Regardless, I have also found a fix (besides the flash drive which works too). I purchased a "Y cable" (see below for link to this cable) to play my Ipod through and older receiver I have out in my garage and plugged it into the av plug in the Outlander. Hold down the cd/mp3 button and this works as well. I am going to continue to bug the crap out of Apple.

Well I finally found an Ipod that works in my Outlander Sport. I got a used Ipod Classic 80 GB off of Craigslist for $100. It took a few minutes to load but once it did I could play music. Navigating is a bit of a pain and voice search is a little hit or miss. But it does work. I'm running software version 1.1.2.

Angry iPod issues in my 2011 Outlander Sport

I have the same issue. I have a 2nd generation 60gig iPod classic and can not get it to work via USB or via adapter. I have tried my friends 4th generation iPods as well as a newer iPod touch, NONE of them worked. The only one I could get to work was my friends iPhone.

I am very frustrated with this situation as this was a MAJOR selling point for me on this vehicle. I even upgraded the stereo option thinking I'd be able to listen to my tunes in the car. I'm feeling very misled considering I was told by the sales person that this option worked as well as charged my iPod. I bought my car a month ago and this issue has obviously been going on for a while, yet I was not told that.

Default iPod issues in my 2011 Outlander Sport

I am having the same issue in my 2011 Outlander Sport SE. Mitsubishi told me that it was a known issue and that I need and update. The dealer just called and told me that I have the newest update and that their tech was able to get a 3rd gen iPod Touch to work. I had tried a 3rd and 4th gen iPod Touch and neither worked via USB. I did get the 4th gen to work via bluetooth. Also my phone is a Droid and my end call button doesn't seem to wanna work most of the time. I hope these two issue get resolved quickly as these are the only two things keeping me from fully enjoying my new ride.

I think there is a bigger problem here. I don't know how well the Nanos work but while my classic does connect via USB, the interface makes it almost unusable. After spending about 2 minutes to load playback always starts at the first song alphabetically on the Ipod unless you keep it plugged in when you turn off the vehicle. Then the only way to scroll is with the touchscreen or the steering wheel buttons. The lag is horrible. If you want to search through artists or albums you have to advance through all of them with scroll arrows. You can not directly access an artist by name without going through all the artists. When plugged in the controls on the Ipod are disabled so you cant access music that way. Forget about the voice search it is horrible. There seems to be a conflict when you have a cellphone connected via bluetooth and an Ipod connected with USB at the same time. You hit the voice button and say play so and so and it asks you if you want to dial a number. Its all very frustrating. Mitsu really needs to go back to the drawing board on the Ipod controls. Even a simple alphabet screen so you could access artists by letter would be a dramatic improvement.

UPDATE: I took my car in for it's first service last week and brought up the issue and asked about a fix, a firmware upgrade... anything... The tech that worked on my car replied with a big fat NO.

So as owners of these cars and customers to Mitsubishi, how do we get these fixed because I'm going to admit that was my biggest selling point over a competitors vehicle I had drove just hours before purchasing mines and now I'm honestly regretting my decision, not due to the issue, but due to Mitsubishi's non-existent response / acknowledgment of the problem. BTW, this is my fourth Mitsubishi, so I would classify myself as a loyal customer.

Walruski, I also have the Motorola Droid. Do you ever have issues with the end call button not ending the call? I started off using the Droid for music as well but the signal stregnth varies (I was using via bluetooth) I plugged in my iPod Nano 2g and no problems. Still can't use the 4g iPod Touch other than bluetooth. Dealership told me my FUSE system has the latest update.

Yes I have had that issue too where I hit the talk button to make a call but when I hit the end call button it doesn't hang up. Its usually only rectified by the other end hanging up first. Sometimes the hang up button works. It seems to depend on whether I'm making a call or receiving one. More testing needs to be done on this to see if it consistently doesn't work one way.

I will say that voice dialing is a lot more usable than voice music search. I can usually dial a number in one shot. I haven't had a lot of complaints about my connection while I'm talking over the hands-free. So bonus points for that working. I've had to import my contacts from my phone on more that one occasion, so I am not sure how or even if it stores them.

Thank you Creed for verifying that there is no update available. Saves me a phone call.

Ive also tried connecting a seagate freeagent drive, and even though it powers up, the system doesn't recognize a connection. I think the best option for us is really a thumbdrive.

Hopefully someone out there smarter than me will figure out a hack to the software and write a new interface. It couldn't possibly be worse than what we have now.

I think the moral of the story is that you can possibly connect an Ipod as long as its older and not a touch, but even then you probably don't want to.
