Default Head Gasket

Im getting my head gasket changed. What is it supposed to be torqued at? And is it foot lbs or inch lbs? I wont be able to do much to my engine but i have to change the lifters. I believe thats what a clicking sound is.... any ideas?

Well, the HEAD BOLTS/ STUDs, i torqued them to 72 lbs of torque. As for the lifters, that should help out the clicking sound.

I recently did the head gasket on my car. So thats how i know. And when puttin on the head bolts/ studs, there is a certain pattern you must follow. If you have a manual for you car, look it up.I cant remember exactly. Sorry! Hope this helps!

get a Hayes manual or a Chiltons manual it has all the specs and bolt tightening patterns. it's only about 15 bucks, if you went just by what Agallardo said you'd be replacing it again in about 1k miles. after the 72lbs you have to turn it another 90 degrees, that makesa big difference and on these cars you have to retighten them after about 100-150 miles to be safe, they tend to loosen up right after you tighten them the first time.

WTF man! What do you mean by what Agallardo just said? 72 is good! And i do admit to check it after a hundred miles or so. and re-torque em to make sure.

Is your car a 1g or 2g? Turbo or non turbo? Those would both play a role in what you tighten them down to.

As far as hearing a tick, Im going to assume you have a 4g63. That tick is a normal thing with those heads. Its not necessarily a bad thing, just depends on how loud it is and how long you hear it. You should only notice it loudly until oil has gotten up into them (when first started up). Everything on these cars is tightened by ft/lbs.

If its a 420a the torque specs have changed after having so many gasket problems.. Look for the revised specs. the corners get the same as the centers now, not less like they started out.
