Malfunction light
I had my computer replaced with a used one and I also had header on my car now. Check engine light throw a code which was translated to me by the mechanic as Secondary Air Injection Malfunction. According to the mechanic, Since I had the header on my car, the computer cannot detect the Secondary air injection, Is this true? if it's true, is it bad for the car?
I just had the same code on my car. (Not a mitsubishi) The secondary air injection pump pumps air into the exhaust manifold. On my car it was for 60 seconds. The purpose was to heat up the cats faster. After 60 seconds the computer shuts off the pump. The sensors take their readings but all is not well the light goes on. It is usually the solenoid /check valve in the air injection line. So if you have headers there may not be an input for this line. Maybe someone with a scan tool can turn off that feature and kill the light for you.
