3KGT NA Oil Pump Question on Reassembly
1992 NA .... reassembled oil pump after carefully checking clearances - yes, I made hard decision to use it over vice new one.
It appears very tight - recognizing the cover plate holds the mechanism in place and is coated in oil as the rotors spin, once assembled, should I be able to turn the pump with my finders through the shaft opening where it would fit onto the crankshaft? It does not appear to be binding, just tight - and, I am assuming it is the contact with the cover plate since gears move very smoothly. I have installed it on the crank and turned it through with no issues, but am concerned about the "tightness."
Thanks!
George

RE: 3KGT NA Oil Pump Question on Reassembly
OK, as I got into this, I found this in a couple of advisory locations ....
"Whenever the oil pump is disassembled or the cover removed, the gear cavity must be filled with petroleum jelly to seal the pump and act as a prime. Do not use grease."
Comments?
Thanks for the help!

I don't remember what it felt like But I just just poured some oil into a bowl and then dipped the gears in and made sure they were well lubed. They don't spin very easily by hand to begin with.
