Help.. my 3000gt vr4 just died
Howdy. I just bought a 94 3000gt vr4 from an auction two days ago. Car was fine. But today, it just wont start. Battery is fully dead. So i take it to sears auto and they tell me its the alternator. I tell them to change it, and now, they tell me that they are not qualified to take it out because there are a lot of things in the front of the car. So i was wonder
would the mitsubishi dealerships be able to fix this problem? Any one in Massachusetts know of any good place I can take the car to get it fixed?
Just go get an alternator, and put it in,as its not that hard to do.Youll have to maybe take the drivers side radiator fan assembly out to have some ample room to work.I suggest you NOT got to autozone, maybe another reputable parts house.ive had dismal results with autozones remanufactured parts.Id also suggest that you take the suspect alternator off,and have it checked prior to getting another one.Back in high school(the olden days) I used to work for Sears Auto center here in Memphis, and while im sure theyre technology has gotten better,I know their sales practices likely havent changed.....If you have a NAPA,or O,Reileys close theyre a better bet.
I got to agree with the other guys. But if you are new to grease monkey world ask a buddy to help. One thingI did when I got my first 3000gt is went on ebay and got a service manual cd. This helped a great deal. Helps you get more comfort with your car.
THanks a lot guys. I got my car back. It cost $800 total to get a new alternator and get it installed by the dealer. I read that that is the average price to get it changed at. I will definately get the service manual cd and check out some of things. The next step will be the struts. One thing though, my vr4 has the adjustable struts, so i am guessing that aftermarket struts won't be able to do the push button adjustments, Mitsubishi quoted me at around 1500 for struts and stall or something, so i am thinking about getting the regular ones that came with the car, that way the switches inside will work.
Well khundkar,
That makes alot of sense to just buy the oringinal struts so the ETC works. But if your are planning to mod and drop your 3000gt then you might want aftermarket struts and Tein springs. Hell of alot cheaper and the it does the trick as far as performance. Just something to thing about.
