RE: 02 transmission problems
once again, you should not use anything but mitsu fluid.
do NOT use "additives" installed in different fluids.
do NOT use different fluids.
I cant say it anymore ways than Ive already said it. Stop questioning it, and use mitsu fluid only.

RE: 02 transmission problems
After being on this board and the other one, seems like Transmissions are the #1 issue with the monteros. A majority of the time, problems arise cause somebody stuffed non-approved fluid in the AT. Knowing what I know now, and knowing that Im probably paying too much for the SP-III, Ill use it. Its just too risky to save seriously - $50 - every $30k miles, running another ATF fluid. The truck is just too darn expensive.
With that said, I use non-mitsu lubes (BUT SAME GRADE) in other parts of the drive line. Mobil 1 in the motor, Speciality formulations in the diffs and transfer case - but I make sure they are 5w-30, GL5 and GL4 SAE grades respectively.
Other than blinking 4x4 lights and trannys getting trashed from wrong fluid - these trucks are solid!!!
