If your engine has spun a bearing it would be a waste of effort to replace top end and not address the camshaft bearing. Pull the crankshaft and at the very least flush out oil passages and put in new bearings all around. This will insure that you will not have to open it up again for many miles.

Default Torque spec

What is the torque spec on the galley plugs? I looked everywhere but couldn’t find it.

It appears to be 16mm but it would neither thread into the course or the fine gauges. I also checked it against the SAE thread gauges without success.

Fortunately, the new plugs thread into the block fine despite the damage sustained during removal. I will install them with Loctite 271 (red) and liberally seal the threads.

Thanks for checking in!

To be honest I think I just liberally coated the plugs with lock tight and then tightened them by feel till they felt firmly seated. From memory the thread form appeared to be some sort of pipe thread..

Glad it helps. When I started this journey I was struggling for information so I decided to document it here.

Default 2001 montero sport

Hey, off topic but I'm wondering if a 2001 Pajero manual is close enough to replace camshaft seals on a montero sport. Same year

FINALLY!!!!! My 2002 is running and running well. I do have a P0174 and P0171 codes, and I also have a slight VLA tick. I am going to replace all of the injectors for the codes. I cleaned all of the injectors as well as I thought was necessary, but still have the tick. Gonna replace all of the lifters as well. But I am very pleased with the results. Overall, I am very pleased with my results. Thanks Larry for your tutorial! Without it, I would have been totally in the dark as to what to do.

Jonn - I'm glad my engine rebuild thread helped you! You will figure out the codes I'm sure. Start a separate thread and I'm sure Hunter can help you.
