Default Rear spring broken - 03 Montero

I just discovered my rear left spring is broken on my 03 3.8 XLS. Does anyone know if the 01-02 springs work? Theres an 01 at the local pick n pull and I'd rather not drop $250 on a new one.

You can check part numbers for the ‘01 and ‘03 from internet part sellers. If they have same parts number they are same springs. That’s what i always do so I won’t get the wrong parts.

They have different part numbers, but I didn't know if that was from the change in 03

Just checkd it myself and they have different part numbers...’03 coil springs are more expensive too. They may look the same but spring/load ratings might be different.
Where are you located? Try searching at lkqpickyourpart.com and maybe they have one at a nearby location.

Oh I see...will you be the one doing the spring swap? If you can’t wait for a used part, I guess the safest option is to get new spring from Mitsubishi part sellers over the internet. It’s almost always cheaper than getting one at your dealership.
I wouldn’t want to try installing the ‘01 springs, the ride and handling might be affected.
But wait...any plans of upgrading your suspension?

But then again....you have to change all 4 springs.

No plans to upgrade, fixing to sell. Will probably just order a new one.
