Shogun sport 2.5 equippe 51 plate alternator problem
Hi all,
So after changing my alternator with a second hand one i still have the battery not charging !
Garage has jumped a cable from positive of alternator to battery and is now charging !!!!
Can somebody tell me what could be stopping this from alternator to the battery ?
is there a fuse, relay switch or possible bad live cable ?
The strange thing is that there is no warning battery light on the dash
Any ideas please people
thanks

I can't tell you with certainty that this is the cause on you vehicle, but I had somewhat similar experience on a non Mitsubishi vehicle. When I removed the instrument cluster, the alternator stopped charging the battery. However, if I left the bulb for the alternator plugged in (outside of the cluster), all was good and the charging system was functioning. It turned out that the warning bulb circuit was needed to activate some of the windings in the alternator and to start charging process. It is a momentary process and the once it starts, the ongoing energy output provides the current to sustain the electric field needed. That is why the Alternator/battery light goes on when you start the engine, but then goes off is all is functioning correctly. If you have a bulb in the instrument cluster, check to see if it is bunt out. Alternatively, check if your feed to/from said bulb.
