Hi Chris. My Outie has this problem in driver side only. So, are good news that you work in Mitsu, I hope that recall is made by Mitsubishi to solve this problem. . .

Talked to my boss about the hood dents and the concerns others are having about the problem with rock chips.

First off he is going to let me swap hoods when the next white outie comes in. He didn't believe me about the dents first but then I showed him the hood on his XLS and he believed me then. His is black and stands out like a sore d**k, I don't know how he hasn't seen them yet. He is going to try to find some info from Mitsu and see what there suggestion is. To me it is really a no brainer - The hoods need to be replaced with a new and improved hood with hood shocks.

He is also going to look into some fixes for the rock chips besides coming out of the customers pocket. This should be covered under warranty (I know that GM covers paint), not sure about Mitsu. Hopefully know more in a few days.

Sorry about the novel length post.
Chris

I have a 2007 XLS in silver and just noticed the same 2 dimples on the driver's side. We are quite sure these were not there when we purchased the car as we check the hood closely for defects. This seems to imply that the dimples developed over time; likely from stress to the metal.

Doesn't photograph well as the surface is too reflective, but they are easily visible in person.

Okay, so now i have the two dimples, as well. Started as one crease, but they seem to get worse every time i take the car in to get the oil and filter changed. Starting to really make me mad, since everything else about my car is perfect. We should all start writing to the company....

yep,
somebody should, i already try, not enouf people give me there info, and im sick to be in contact with mitsu. I try 2 many time with no result for other problem i had with my outie.
somebody should ask for hour Picture of the problem, and Serial number of the car in question. That should be easyer, so they can see what serial is in problem.

Could it be that the dents are caused by someone ( i.e. the service mechanics) trying to close the hood without taking down the rod keeping the hood open. I myself am used to cars having gas springs keeping the hood open, and therefore I forgot to take down the rod the first times I checked the engine compartment. I realised that if I had pulled the hood downwards a little bit harder I most certainly would have caused some damage. This explanation would also explain the misalignment of the hood shown in some pictures in this thread.

Who would like to try the theory on their own car ... ?
