well maybe thanks for the suggestion :-)

However I would prefer to be certain to know what to expect if I decide to remove it :-) Can you imagine a spring and a few ball bearing flying out in the dirt with no warning right under the car

Good advice really. I looked in the Workshop manual today and that transfer box is not repairable, so I dont know what is behind it. So my advice stands -- Do not remove it.

However my question is still valid why I shouldnt remove it ?

Whats the mysterious mystery behind this ...plug... ?

I will not remove it for sure but man that is bothering me not knowing whats behind :-)
