There is more than size and offset.

On stock 18" wheels for the Outlander

the bolt pattern (PCD) is 114.3,
the centre bore is 67.1mm,
the rim width is 7",
and the offset is 38mm.

I am not sure that 8.5 " is not going to rub.

Try playing with the live application at tirerack.com or 1010tires.com

I have 18x8 wheels on mine, no problem there. Mine are 45mm offset so the 35mm 8.5" wide wheels would have about 1/8" MORE clearance from the fender well.
