Default 2016 Outlander S-AWC

Hello everyone,

Can someone please explain 2016 Outlander SE S-AWC. I know it is complex system, I was curious, is it electronic 4x4 or AWD? if i leave the system in SNOW mode, will it damage the drive train? Thanks in advance!!

Yes and yes It can be electronic 4X4 in the locked mode. Other modes it is AWD. It incorporates sensors, wheel brake pressure, yaw controllers, torque vectoring, etc. I would say the snow mode is for snow. I believe it gives more power equally to all wheels by default and then adjusts more rapidly based on feedback. You will get significantly decreased gas mileage of course. Will it damage the drive train? Maybe not. I would not recommend doing it. The normal mode will probably suit most suburban snow situations in most states, especially if the day entails going from snow covered roads to wet roads, etc. Now if you're in Canada or a far Northern state and there is a foot of snow or more on the ground, keep it in snow. I do know driving on pavement in locked 4X4 is not recommended.
