The wire in the last photo (running right between serpentine belt and the engine block) is the crank position sensor wire. It is supposed to be going down that way. There normally couple holders to keep it tucked in right up to the engine, so that it would not get mangled by the belt.
The other connector should go to Evap purge solenoid. Here is a photo what mine looks like. I wonder if PO removed it from your truck.

Angry Died today

I was trying to limpet home a few miles back to my house. I started making this sparking noise followed by me losing power followed by me breaking down I was able to get it to pull it into a safe spot off the side of the freeway.

when I pulled over and smoke started coming out from the hood open the hood it look like it was from the bottom lower side of the engine sort of over by where the oil Cap is.

I'm hoping that this didn't ruin the entire engine in it it's just that valve gasket fixed or something easy like this ever happened to you guys.

Sparking noises followed by lack of power followed by dying and smoke coming out of the engine by the engine oil.
I'm really afraid that it might've blown head gasket but I don't want to think that.

I'm having it towed home now.

any advice guys thank you. Will have to look at it more at home I am afraid to start it.

The internet seems to be at a consensus that the 3.0 L 24v engine is a interference engine...

you need to seriously come up with a way to research more accurately

the 3.0l mitsubishi montero is a non-interference engine

the 3.5l mitsubishi monteros came in both SOHC and DOHC, the DOHC is rare.

the 3.8l found in 2003-2006 mitsubishi monteros are SOHC

the 3.8 SOHC is interference engines

the 3.0 is tricky, some say yes it is interference, some say no...so i guess i would consider it interference.

my details on the 3.5L and 3.8 are 100% accurate

On what basis did the truck driver made the "diagnosis" of the issue at hand being a timing belt? Don't panic too soon.
