Default 4wd lock flashing

2008 3.0, 2wd works fine and when I turn the **** to either auto or lock everything is fine until I roll about 10 ft the 4wd lock flashes and says service is required, make note that even with the dial turned and 4wd lock flashing it is NOT engaged and is still only front wheel drive. Ive had this problem in the past before from a bad wheel speed sensor but that also omitted the 4wd lock flashing all the time as well as abs light and again I dont have any other light, no engine codes with a basic obd2 and it only happens once put into 4wd, turning the car off and back on clears the dash warning. ive kind of read that a "pump" could of gone out but I also read that its engaged with an electronic clutch so im not sure where to start. any help appreciated.

I guess what I was getting at...in 345k miles, how often have you been changing transmission fluids? rear differential? transfer case?

I'd be curious if there was a drivetrain code thrown, but you'd have to go to a mechanic to scan for that.
