I have a 96 eclipse gs 5 speed. Recently I was driving it when it started to lose power i pushed the gas a little more then it began to shake as if it were trying to push with all of its might then finally cut off. When i tried to cut it back on it turned on fine without hesitation. Again,today the same shaking happened but without turning off i then noticed that every one in a while my rpm needle would drop very low almost stall then shoot back up very frequently what could be the problem??

 

Not sure if it could be the same cause, but I have a 2001 Eclipse that had the same problem. Before changing the IAC valve, I had the throttle body checked out and cleaned. Sometimes deposits build up and it's almost like a "choke". Cleaning the throttle body and air filter fixed it for me. Hope it works for you, since it didn't cost much. IAC would have run almost $400.
